Diversity and Citizenship Education

"This edited volume of works compiled by James Banks, one of the leading scholars in multicultural studies and education, offers a much needed analysis of the sweeping landscape of citizenship that makes up the demographic reality of many countries around the world...The book is timely, well researched, and well organized. It should be required reading in many political science courses and in multicultural education courses as well." --Choice Magazine

"This widely informative and well-written book...should be read by all educators around the world who are concerned to create just and inclusive multicultural societies." --Race Equality Teaching

"It is a commendable work in that its contributors profoundly enhance our understanding of the broad spectrum of practices in citizenship education in a variety of social, political, and cultural contexts. It illustrates brilliantly how powerful global and domestic non-state actors and institutions impinge upon the education policies of sovereign nation-states." --Teachers College Record

"[The contributors'] insights and perspectives provide a rich resource for students and professors of comparative education ... drawing attention to pressing issues facing educators, researchers, and planners." --Comparative Education Review

"A timely contribution ... thought provoking articles ...Since global context of diversity issues are marginalized in educational research, this important book provides a much needed dialogue on the topic." --Anthropology and Education
