Beschreibung
With over 150 illustrations, this book documents an exhibit appearing only at the Seattle Art Museum. Namban art (influenced by the Spanish and Portuguese), Komo art (influenced by the Dutch), as well as a wide variety of maps and ukiyo-e prints illustrate how Japanese artists in the pre-modern period understood European and American arts and cultures. At the same time, Japanese works were appreciated as exotic items in the West. Yukiko Shirarahara is John A. McCone Foundation Curator of Asian Art at the Seattle Art Museum.
