Über den Autor
Cheryl Warren is an Australian writer and researcher based in regional Victoria, where she lives with her husband and their dogs. Her work sits at the intersection of investigative research and narrative nonfiction - cases where the facts are complex, the people are real, and the stakes of getting it wrong are high. She is drawn to stories that demand patience and precision: cases that unfolded slowly, that resisted easy explanation, and that left communities searching for clarity long after the verdict. Cheryl came to true crime writing through a deep interest in the human dynamics behind high-profile cases - not the sensational surface, but the fractured relationships, the accumulation of small decisions, and the ordinary lives that collide with extraordinary events. She believes the best true crime writing does what good journalism has always done: gathers the evidence, earns the trust of the reader, and tells the truth without sensationalising. Her research process is grounded in court documents, judgements, forensic records, and verified contemporaneous reporting. She does not speculate where the record is silent, and she does not sensationalise where the facts are already devastating enough. Fatal Lunch: The Death Cap Mushroom Murders is her debut book, published by Sharp Kestrel. It examines one of the most closely watched criminal trials in Australian history - a nine-week Supreme Court trial that ended with a unanimous guilty verdict and a life sentence - told with the clarity, restraint, and compassion the case deserves. She is currently working on her second book.
