Originally published in 1807 Tales of Shakespeare is almost as classic as the plays by the bard himself. Charles Lamb (1775-1834) and his sister Mary Lamb (1764-1874) have taken twenty of Shakespeares best plays and retold them in a more modern stylein digestible proseaimed at sophisticated teenagers. All character dialogue, however, comes straight from the plays. A great way to become familiar with these masterpieces of literature before tackling the original versions. Über den Autor
Charles Lamb (1775-1834) was an English poet and essay writer born in London. He was friends with many prominent literary figures, including William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. One of his most celebrated works is the children's book 'Tales from Shakespeare' (1807), which he wrote in collaboration with his sister, Mary.
