In the Cracks of Fate and Era: The Vicissitudes of a Chinese Family

¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿

This book is a sociological and anthropological academic monograph written in novelistic form by sociologist Mr. Lin Yaohua. Through the rise and fall of the Zhang and Huang families amid social life and economic changes in the story, it portrays a panoramic view of rural life in southern China. Faced with opportunities and challenges in life, the different choices made by the Zhang and Huang families lead to vastly different family destinies and personal experiences. The author narrates with ease, depicting the life scenes of the two families while offering meticulous descriptions of local beliefs, customs, and other aspects of society. The book also analyzes and comments on how individuals adapt to and navigate interpersonal relationships, providing readers with a sociological reader to better understand the connotation of the characters' stories and interpret the operational mechanisms and inner logic of traditional Chinese society.

This book is the first translated publication of the original 1944 English edition of "The Golden Wing".
