Sonja V. Lutz arrived in New York with a German degree, no network, and a husband with an interesting opportunity. Twenty years later, she is a CMO, a co-founder, a Growth Architect, and the woman who has been in the rooms most women are still trying to get into. The Third Act is the career memoir Silicon Valley never wrote about itself, told by the woman who lived it.
She spent more than a decade, after her early career at Philip Morris and MontBlanc, navigating one of the most powerful and least transparent professional ecosystems on earth. A four year run at JustAnswer that earned her two promotions and five international markets, a Facebook war room in the middle of the Cambridge Analytica crisis two weeks into her role, growing a company's revenue in the middle of a pandemic, and the years between them all built the kind of experience no course could teach her. That is how she arrived at knowing exactly what she was worth and exactly what she was willing to accept.
This book is a field guide from someone who has been inside the machine and come out the other side with her values intact and a clear picture of what the game actually looks like without the glossy Silicon Valley filter on. It is for everyone who has ever been told they are too much, too emotional, too direct, or not enough, and for everyone who has taken the long way and is beginning to understand that the long way was the point all along.
The Third Act is not a reinvention. It is a recognition.

She has served as Country Manager, Director of International, VP of Marketing, and CMO at companies including JustAnswer, Ava Women, Emtrain, and New Level Work, and as an advisor and contractor at Senreve and Facebook. She did not observe Silicon Valley from a distance. She worked inside it for more than a decade, long enough to understand not just how it works but why it works the way it does. She co-founded DI Code, an AI-driven HR tech platform, won a grant from the IFB Hamburg Innovationsstarter program, and pitched at SXSW. She has been nominated for the WomenTech Global Awards in 2024 and [...] work spans B2B SaaS, luxury consumer goods, FemTech, workplace culture technology, and the direct-to-consumer space. She is known for walking into categories she has never worked in and building growth foundations from scratch, for speaking the language of boards and investors while never losing sight of the humans inside the organizations she serves, and for the particular combination of operational precision and strategic range that comes from twenty years of figuring it [...] lives in San Francisco with her husband and two daughters. She hugs for at least thirty seconds. She believes that the only data AI cannot produce is behavioral data, that lifting each other up is not idealism but strategy, and that the Third Act, for anyone willing to claim it, is the most powerful chapter of [...] is her first book.
