Ugo Rondinone (b. 1964) adds a poetic dimension to everyday objects and phenomena. In typically Minimalistic arrangements, he puts a tree, a clock, the sun or a rainbow in new contexts by means of repetition, isolation, or reduction, creating atmospheric ambiences. The Schirn is dedicating a large survey exhibition to Rondinone that will show­­case key paintings, sculptures, and video works by the renowned Swiss artist. Devised specifically for the Schirn, his new installation extends along the entire length of the gallery and into the Rotunda. The exhibition and the book »Life Time« combines fundamental themes that have shaped the work of the conceptual and installation artist for the past thirty years: time and transience, day and night, reality and fiction, nature and culture. Rondinone has repeatedly referred to the iconog­raphy of Romanticism in his works and used quotes from literature and pop culture. The starting point of his multimedia oeuvre is the transformation of the outside world into a subjective, emotional inner world. He develops experiential spaces in which the viewer actually becomes part of the ­installations and their immersive structures.

Un arbre, une montre, le soleil ou un arc-en-ciel avec les moyens de la répétition, l isolation ou la réduction, il les place avec son minimalisme typique dans un nouveau contexte et crée des tableaux d ambiance atmosphériques. La Schirn consacre à Rondinone une grande exposition d ensemble qui présente des peintures, sculptures et oeuvres vidéo centrales du fameux artiste suisse. Il a également conçu spécialement pour la Schirn une nouvelle installation qui s étend sur toute la longueur de la galerie et dans la rotonde. L exposition et le livre « Life Time » regroupent des thèmes essentiels qui marquent la création de l artiste conceptuel créateur d installations depuis 30 ans : le temps et sa fuite, le jour et la nuit, la réalité et la fiction, la nature et la culture. Toujours, Rondinone reprend l iconographie du romantisme dans ses travaux, citant la littérature et la culture pop. Le point de départ de son oeuvre multimédia est le retournement du monde extérieur transformé en un monde intérieur d émotions subjectif. Il imagine des pièces interactives où le public fait partie des installations et de leurs mécanismes immersifs.

Ugo Rondinone (*1964) verleiht alltäglichen Dingen oder Phänomenen eine poetische Dimension. Ein Baum, eine Uhr, die Sonne oder ein Regen­bogen mittels Wiederholung, Isolation oder Reduktion setzt er sie in einer für ihn typischen ­minimalistischer Manier in einen neuen Kontext und schafft atmosphärische Stimmungsbilder. Die Schirn widmet Rondinone eine große ­Überblicksausstellung, in der zentrale Gemälde, Skulpturen und Videoarbeiten des renommierten Schweizer Künstlers präsentiert werden. Eigens für die Schirn konzipiert er zudem eine neue ­Installation, die sich über die gesamte Länge der Galerie und in die Rotunde erstreckt. Die Ausstellung und das Buch »Life Time« verbinden wesent­liche Themen, die das Schaffen des Konzept- und Installationskünstlers seit 30 Jahren prägen: Zeit und Vergäng­lichkeit, Tag und Nacht, Realität und Fiktion, Natur und Kultur. Immer wieder greift Rondinone in seinen Arbeiten auf die Ikonografie der Romantik zurück, zitiert Literatur und Pop­kultur. Der Ausgangspunkt seines multimedialen uvres ist die Umstülpung der Außenwelt in eine subjektive, emotionale Innenwelt. Er entwirft Er­fahrungsräume, in denen das Publikum Teil der ­Installationen und ihrer immersiven Anlage wird.
