In order to address younger students as well, the mathematics part of the «Fundamentum» is presented in two parts. Part 1 comprises the «elementary» mathematics that corresponds to the syllabus until the end of the 10th grade. In this part the presentation is more detailed. Topics such as «terminology of arithmetical operations» or «equivalence transformations of equations and inequalities» have been included. In part 2 the content complies with the requirements for the «Matura im Grundlagenfach». Some topics that go beyond are included. The physics part is structured systematically. It comprises the classic sections of mechanics, thermodynamics, geometrical optics, electrodynamics and modern physics.

Die DMK setzt sich aus Mitgliedern zusammen, die an Gymnasien, universitären Hochschulen sowie Berufs- und Fachhochschulen Mathematik unterrichten.
Der Kommission obliegt es, den Mathematikunterricht an Mittelschulen in der deutschsprachigen Schweiz zu unterstützen. Zu diesem Zweck gibt sie mathematische Lehrmittel heraus, liefert Informationen im Bulletin des VSMP und organisiert Weiterbildungskurse.
Die DMK engagiert sich aber auch in Fragen des MAR und der Lehrplangestaltung, hält den Kontakt mit verschiedenen schulpolitischen Gremien aufrecht und pflegt die Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Institutionen, welche an der Förderung des Mathematikunterrichts interessiert sind. Das Interesse der DMK gilt auch der Förderung talentierter Schülerinnen und Schüler durch Mathematikwettbewerbe und durch die Internationale Mathematik-Olympiade.
