Numerical simulation of ammonia converter to optimize conversion percentage is presented. The aim of this simulation is to maximize the ammonia reaction conversion depending on pressure, temperature and catalyst type basing on results of Aspen hysys optimizer v.8.3. Two cases according to type of catalyst and conversion percentage were included between UDHE and KPR which are considered the most two leading designer in ammonia plant construction. Relationships of conversion versus pressure, temperature and pressure drop parameters were concluded based on more than 2000 trial with different values of those parameters. According to that the optimum temperature that gives the maximum conversion at each pressure was detected. This maximum conversion is limited by some construction constraints such as catalyst maximum activity condition and reactor material of construction limit.
